Advertising on the Web
Feb 15, 2000 -- AdKnowledge's 1999 Online Advertising Report (OAR) supplies statistical information to marketers and agencies for their Web advertising plans. The report contains information on ad rates, most popular banner ad sizes, and stats on the number of sites and networks seeking ads. In spite of all the new technologies, HTML remains the dominate rich media type. The report is free.
And still more on Web advertising: Entrepreneur, author and all-around pundit Esther Dyson discusses the world of web advertising. Here's a sample:
Q: Conventional Web wisdom has it that a Web site has to be first in its category to succeed. How important do you think it is to be first?
A: It helps. But if you do a crummy job you just get into trouble faster. Being first is not all you need -- it’s useful but not sufficient. You still have to be competent. Everybody wants to find the single winning strategy that will guarantee success. Unfortunately there isn’t one. You have to do a better job than the next guy.
