High-Octane Advertising
Mar 15, 2000 -- There's a new way for advertisers to reach you: videos at the gas pump. Tulsa's Mercury Media put display screens on gas pumps at convenience stores. Most of the ads promote items sold in the store; others, cell phones and Web sites. The screens also offer news and weather bulletins -- important in tornado-prone Oklahoma. According to Business Week, Mercury president David Hicks said some consumers were so enthralled watching ads that they overfill their tanks.
